The Tata Zica is the latest hatchback from the Tata Motors India Limited. The TMIL is in a hurry to replace its aging models like the Indica eV2 and the Indigo eCS. The hatchback and sedan code named the ‘Kite Twins’ are already on the final stages of production. The hatchback christened Zica is expected to be launched early next year, probably during the 2016 Indian auto show which will be conducted in February in New Delhi.
The Zica is expected to have petrol and diesel variants. The transmission will be 5-speed manual initially. Later automatic variants with AMT gear boxes will be launched. The Zica to be positioned between the Nano and the Bolt will be priced competitively as it will have rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the Hyundai i10, the Chevrolet Beat and the Renault Kwid in the Indian market. The company has not given any hints on the price tags. But as per the speculations the prices are expected between Rupees 4 to 6 lakh.
As per the promo video recently released by the company the Zica will have one of the better exteriors than most of the Tata models. The hatchback based on the XO platform will have body features like a smiling honeycomb grille, curvy head lamps, and large rounded rear bumper with fog lamps having chrome surrounds and a character chrome line between the head lights. The prominent creases across the shoulder, mildly flared wheel arches, a rear spoiler and wraparound tail lamps are the other features of the body.
Comfort and safety
The cabin of the Zica will have a lot of comfort and safety features. They include a manual AC, power windows, electronic power steering, electrical ORVMs, rear defogger, rear wiper and washer and a Herman 8 speaker music system with 8 speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, auxiliary-in and USB connectivity. The safety features include 2 air bags and ABS.
Engines and mileages
The Zica is expected to be powered by 1.2 Revotron 3 cylinder petrol engines with 84 bhp and 114 NM torque ratings. The diesel variants will have 3 cylinder turbocharged 1.05 litre, 64 bhp and 140 NM torque Revotorq engines.
